    Ties That Bind Energetically

    Ties That Bind Energetically:

If you hold on to your past even after the facts and circumstances change, you create imprints in your luminous energy field (LEF) as well as energetic cords that tie you to the past. The cords that join you to those individuals are energy filaments that can remain long after your relationships with them have changed.  Shamans are able to sense these connections to the point that they can tell who’s on the other side of the rope that’s tied to your neck. So even if you’re no longer furious at your former best friend whom you stopped speaking to years ago, you may have a cord binding you to her/him that keeps that relationship and your karma with her/him, unresolved. It’s what makes you go ballistic when you find out that she/he’s gone and hurt someone else, or when you’re reminded of an argument you had with her/him back when you were still friends. These cords are like feeding tubes, which you use to continue nourishing yourself with the sour milk of anger and resentment.

It you don’t cut the tie to your ex-pal, you’ll end up re-creating a similar situation in your life in order to find forgiveness and peace. You’ll also continue to cling to the story known as “She/he Hurt Me, and I Am a Victim.” Then each time you retell the old tale, even if it’s just to yourself, you’ll create new feelings of sadness, anger, and resentment, thus reinforcing what’s binding you to her/him.

We can even remain energetically ties to other people after they die, remembering the pain they caused us instead of recalling the lessons they taught us.   These types of toxic connections are very common, where we hold our ancestors responsible for what’s wrong with us today. These cords can keep the dead trapped between the worlds, unable to find rest or peace. They then become earthbound spirits that haunt our houses and our lives tethered to us by our wounds.

An energy tie that binds you to someone else can drain you of vital energy, almost as if you had a parasite. It will continue to exist as long as you allow your paralyzing story to replay itself over and over again.

If you suspect that you  have an energy bond to another person that’s draining you, the following exercise in forgiveness will help you free yourself of the pain and energy drain of that connection.

Exercise : Severing the Ties That Bind

While there are Shamanic techniques for cutting the cords that energetically tie us to another person, we can also sever these bonds through the practice of forgiveness. The practice is a three-step process-unfortunately, most people accomplish only the first two, finding momentary relief and satisfaction, but not effectively severing the energetic and karmic ties in the LEF. It’s imperative that you do all three steps in order to completely release yourself from the other person:

    1.     The first step is to identify someone who has wronged you or whom you have wronged. Take a deep breath and exhale, releasing with that breath all the anger and injustice that you may feel. Repeat this for as many breaths as you need.

    2.    Next, take another deep breath and blow a prayer or a blessing toward this person, forgiving them for anything they may have done to you. And then, in your mind’s eye, ask them to forgive you for anything you might have done that hurt or wronged them, repeating the following to yourself: “I release you and bless you.” Repeat this for as many breaths as you need.  Then take a very big scissors/knife and cut the cord that is tied to your body.

    3.    The final and most important step is to contemplate the lesson that you learned from this person. What was life trying to teach you through that individual? How do you receive the lesson in its totality so that you don’t ever have to learn it again? How do you turn what was once a source of anger or wounding into a source of compassion and power? It is up to you to write then new story of this relationship.

Once we’ve discarded our old stories, cut the karmic cords, and begun to heal our wounds, we stop being consumed by the dramas of our lives and feeling stuck in a nightmare. Then we can begin to dream a far more fulfilling dream.

And Finally a note about Despacho Ceremonys

The Despacho then is the complete ritual.. there are no empty words here, no words or actions that mean anything other than that which each person present brings in the moment.

‘My thanks for the tree that I loved to climb as I grew up’ ‘my thanks for the teachers I have in my life’ ‘my thanks for the grass.. the skin of the earth’ ‘my thanks to my father who was my greatest teacher’.

‘A song of celebration of difference that brings harmony to my world’

The ritual itself depends on the ‘presence’ and ‘intention’ of all those present. The beauty and grace of this ceremony means that although if may be a ritual that is 500 years old, it is totally fresh and new each time it’s done because it relies for its fresh aliveness of the presence of those it serves.

This is no empty remnant of some long past forgotten ceremony; I believed this is the difference between what has become dogma/religion in the Western World and what a truly Spiritual Practice. When we are being told about it by someone else and then asked to use another’s words or actions then a ritual can begin to lose it’s meaning for the participant, especially over time it becomes a bit like Chinese Whispers. We end up not knowing why we are saying these words because we lost (or in some cases never knew) the original meaning.

Alternatively, when we have the Direct and Full experience, when we bring ourselves fully into it, when we know that each one of us has a Vital Part to Play, then it becomes something that Lives within us, that we fully understand, and then we get it at a deep, cellular level.

Its like life.... If we really knew and understood that we each of us has a place in the UNIVERSE that only we can fill, then we would step fully into it with pride and joy for who we are. What happens in our world today is that we aren’t encouraged to think of ourselves as unique human beings with a place that is ours to fill.  The myth that we live by is that we have been kicked out of the Garden of Eden, that we have sinned from the beginning of time, and we have to earn our place, to struggle and fight for our place.... or in most cases we end up living lives of quiet desperation because we didn’t know there was a place for us here at all.

We are all human and that very fact connects us to each other.... and that as humans we all have underneath the same longing for connection to something bigger than ourselves, the same yearning for meaning and purpose in our lives.

One of the participants in a Recent Despacho Ceremony said that as the Coco Leaves (Bay Leaves) were being passed around and each of us blew our ‘selves’ into them she felt the threads of light that connected us all.  Then as the second set were passed around and we all blew our dreams into them, she felt the threads of light connecting us outwards into the world. So that she truly felt the connection that we all have with each other and with life itself.

    Traditional Despacho

A Traditional Despacho is created by Medicine People who work in alignment through their Spiritual Power.

The Despacho brings us back into the right relationship with our world, and with ourselves.

It’s an offering to the Earth and to the Heavens, a Thanksgiving, and A Prayer of Gratitude.

In order to create a Despacho, the Altomisayoc must perfect a specific Shamanistic Manoeuvre, the Harmonization and Balancing of three “BANDS” or levels of consciousness: yankay, the physical universe, yachay, the spiritual or wisdom realm, and munay, the feeling or heart centre.

The Despacho contains symbols of everything: The Elements, The Four Directions, Weather, Clouds around Mountains, Rainbows, Lakes, Rivers, Fruits of, Earth, Stars, human labour, Emotions, Ideas, and so on. Every item represents a part of the Andean Cosmology, is imbued with intent for connection to the Mountains and the Cosmos, and affects the totality of energy in the universe. When the offering is completed, the entire assemblage is folded, ties and wrapped in a sacred weaving.  It is then offered to the Forces of Nature either by burning, burying, or by casting into water. The energy of collective intention captured and contained in the Despacho is thus released into the universe, where its message of reciprocity and gratitude can reach the most appropriate agent for manifestation. The result is renewed harmony and balance in ordinary life.

Ayni.. The word itself means reciprocity, “As I give so shall I receive”  ‘Whatever I sow, so shall I Reap’

This is a beautiful way to Dream our world into being.

When we create an Ayni Despacho we do this to manifest into our world all that we need in order to step into our becoming.

As we work with our Despacho we create a harmonious energy and we envision a world of Munay (Love), of balance and abundance that we can step into.

The Shamans have always known that by aligning ourselves to the forces of nature, the natural forces of the universe. We are able to create a reality that doesn’t collude with the collective dream of scarcity, lack and fear, but a reality based on the natural forces of the universe which are powerful, creative and vital.

When we come into right relationship with the earth, with the heavens and with ourselves we align ourselves with this natural life force of the universe. The life force that flows through every living thing that informs every living atom. We live in an abundant world that is naturally beautiful. The Shaman when creating the Ayni Despacho holds a vision of what is possible for the world that is based on beauty and abundance, the sweetness, the nectar of life and the wisdom that we all inherently hold.

The Despacho is a prayer that allows us to thank the universe for that which we are about to receive! And it does this in the spirit of service to the Family/ Community/ Village/ Society that we live in.

Because when each of us grants ourselves the gift of Abundance, we become Abundant, Radiant, Generous Human beings who do what they love and love what they do. So Creating a World in Balance.

    Preparation:

Andean WeavingsPaper any colour: - The offering is created on Andean Weavings that represent the masculine and feminine in balance. (If you are unable to obtain Andean Weavings then please use Paper, any colour). White paper, for clarity, is placed on the weavings for a base.

Large piece of paper: - Represents an envelope of dreams which we will write with prayers.  – Fold into 1/3 d’s horizontally and vertically to create 9 squares. –

Red Wine, Vodka, White Wine : - As the Cermony begins, Red wine, Vodka is offered to the Spirits of the Mountains and to Mother Earth.

Toss the two drinks outside the paper to bring together heave and earth, to call the elementals of the three worlds.

(Red Wine) Blood of Pachamama (earth) Call on Pachamamma to Bless this first layer. Hold glass; pray into it. Use a red flower to sprinkle the Despacho with the Red Wine. “Be with us, thank you Pachamama for our lives” Thank you for nourishing and nurturing us.

(Vodka) Offering to the Mountain Spirits, The holy Mountains. Call on the Montains to bless the Despacho. Use a white flower to sprinkle the Despacho with spirit. “Be with us, thank you Apus, Montain Spirits”. Thank you for your wisdom.

Sugar: - Represents – Love and the sweetness of life.  Place sugar on all four corners of the paper – representing four corners of the world and the four elements. – Make small cross in the centre of the paper with the sugar to represent the Soughtern Corss. “What is in heaven is reflected back to me” “As above so below”.  Use sugar liberally throughout.

Incense: - A bed of incense is laid, to carry the prayers of the offering into the cosmos. Any aromatic flower/essences

Flower petals : - (Red for Pachamama, White for Mountains) are laid in a pattern, commonly in a circle ( clock wise), four directions, cross, or flower pattern, depending on the intent.

Rice: - Sprinkle rice over the whole paper for fertility/abundance/to bring our prayers to fruition.

The Medicine Persons and all the participants feed each other Coco Leaves (Bay Leaves in UK) – the sacred plant of the Andes – into which their prayers / wish’s have been blown.  These gifts are a sign of community and strengthen connections. For the Inca there is no word for ‘I’ so that each Leave represents the community / the village / us and grows in intention as it is passed around each person blows their intention/prayer into it.

Coco Leaves (Bay Leaves):- 3 sets of coco leaves (Bay leaves), called Kintus, each person involved prays, use your right hand clockwise blows into their leaves clock wise, with intent (wish’s, forgiveness, better health, relationships etc) ask for what they wish for themselves, ask for what they wish for the earth, prayers of the earth, prayers of manifestation, and prayers for this land. Passing the leaves around the group allows the prayers to gather momentum by each participant, and then placed in a pattern on the offering, again reflecting the particular intent.

Uhupacha – Keepers of the riches of Pachamama.

    Kaypacha – Middle World.

Hanaqpacha – Upper World – The Luminous Beings.

3 sets of Coco Leaves (Bay Leaves) assembled face up stem down together, these represent: 3 worlds

3 Worlds :  Uhupacha – Keepers of the riches of Pachamama. – Underworld. - Kaypacha – Middle World.  - Hanaqpacha – Upper World – The Luminous Beings.

3 qualities:  Power (Yanquay) – Love ( Munay) – Intellect (Yanchay)

2 States of Self Past:  Present – Future – Becoming.

Give SOUND to these prayers / Give voice to your Intent. Intention is everything. When prayer comes from our deepest self, it becomes a Mantra, and allows us to access the bridge all possibilities.

BREATH: -  The most important act of doing a Despacho is the BREATH. It’s an active prayer of engaging the sacred. Breathe into the Leaves. Tell it who you are (who you really are merged with your external identity), Tell it your myths, your wounds, your contracts, your promises. Tell it who you are becoming. Call on all the place of source: Apus (mountains) Pachamama (earth). Call on your teachers, anyone and everyone who has contributed to who you are now.

With your right hand clockwise place Leaves onto this foundation layer.

Shell:  Place 1 x shell in the middle; this represents the womb of Pachamama our source / birthplace. Holds us and nourishes us. Provides us with opportunity and safety. Represents mother of water – Sachamama – Great Serpent.

Figurine: (Male & Female) Represents the Masculine and Feminine within. Complementary opposites (Yananti/Mesinti) balance / communion.

After the initial “Bed” is created, some or all of the symbolic representations are prayed over, offered up, and added:

Everything after this Basic Foundation can be created as you wish:

When the contents of the Bed of your Despacho are complete, typically encircle them with a long thread or piece of yarn, often this string is died with colours of the rainbow. Place your Red and White flowers, then your cotton wool.  Sprinkle with Red & White Wine.

The yarn  weaves together our prayers and offering and bring them into harmony.

We seek to create a vortex of energy in order to manifest our prayers.

The corners of the large paper are then folded over the contents so that they (all corners) touch at the centre.

The Despacho is now a smaller square.

The new corners of the square are also folded to the centre.

Tie the Despacho with white and yellow yarn.

    White – Clarity

    Yellow - Harmony

Wrap in a cloth and use to cleanse the energy body of everyone participating in the ceremony.

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THE DESPACHO NOW?

    There are several options.

Bury the Despacho – for slow steady results.

Burn the Despacho – for an explosive transformation

Or feed it to Running Waters ceremonially within a reasonable amount of time.

When it’s placed on the fire... turn away from the fire, do not look towards the flame (it’s usually put on the fire at the end of a fire ceremony) this signifies non-attachment to outcome and release of all claims to that which was given away.

The Great Rites of Enlightenment - Munay-Ki

    The Great Rites of Enlightenment

The Nine Great Rites of Enlightenment know by the Q’ero Shaman of Peru, as the Munay-Ki, are the universal human rites of passage. Throughout history, every culture has known human people who lived at the highest quality of consciousness: Christ, Buddha, Gandi, the great poets of Persia – Rumi, Hafiz, Kabir, Lala. People who are aware of the connectedness of all, and are masters of living energy. Most of these people received their level of enlightenment through spirit and the natural world. The Great Rites have always been available that way.

Today, however, we are blessed to be able to receive these Rites person to person. In some traditions, Rites are given to people who have accomplished a level of consciousness. In the tradition of the Q’ero Shaman of Peru, Rites are given at the beginning of the journey, to help guide the unfolding awakening.

The Munay-Ki consists of 2 different types of Rites, Foundation Rites and Lineage Rites.

The journey starts with the Voyager Rite, which helps us to recognize that we are on a spiritual journey. The Voyager Rite is a Lineage Rite, which means that it connects us to the human people who have lived before us. These are medicine men and women who recognized that not only were they on a journey, but that they could impact their journey. They also recognized that their touch or presence had impact upon those around them. By receiving this Rite, we acknowledge the journey, our impact on others, and our connection to those who have come before us. We receive the help of the voyagers of all time.

The next step on the journey comes in 3 beautiful gifts, called the Foundation Rites: The Bands of Power, The Harmony Rites, and Seer Rite. These Rites remind of us our innate skills, and of our connections to the resources of the elements and nature.

The Bands of Power, are 5 coloured bands of light which are organized through intention, from the rainbow fountain of light that encircles our physical body. Each band is connected to an element. With the bands in place we become consciously connected to the earth, the waters, fire, the wind, and pure spirit. The intention is set that any heavy unusable energy that comes our way through life will be mulched by the bands and used for food, instead of coming though to us and weighting us down. The Bands of Power leave a space between us and the outside world, and at the same time help us to consciously be connected to everything and everyone, ultimately allowing unconscious, fear-based armouring to drop away.

The Harmony Rites are gifts of beauty from the natural archetypal world. Into each Chakra is placed an ally that brings harmony and transformation. Each archetype resonates with the Chakra that it is brought into. In the first 4 Chakras power animal energies are placed. Serpent is placed in the first Chakra, Jaguar in the second, Hummingbird in the third and Eagle in the fourth. In the upper three Chakras, guides to the realms of the unconscious, conscious, and super conscious are placed. All of the allies bring balance and harmony, helping to clear heavy energies and allow for the fullness of the rainbow body to shine forth through our physical bodies, relationships, mythic journey, and spirit nature.

The Seer Rite enables us to embrace the fullness of our sensing capabilities. Five pathways of light are woven from the third eye to the visual cortex in the back of the head and two pathways of light are woven from the heat Chakra to the visual cortex. These pathways are infused with energy, reawakening the Shaman’s way of seeing. In the West we are trained to focus with the eyes to see exactly what is in the literal world. We tend to focus so much energy on this that we diminish our natural ability to taken in information from all the levels around us. The Seer Rite helps us to perceive the energy in many ways. Seeing more of the fullness of energy around us, we will no longer be able to block out our own shadow. We will see the shadow and light of others more clearly, as well. This is why the Seer Rite is connected to the heart Chakra, so that we may see ourselves and others through our most compassionate heart.

The Bands of Power, the Harmony Rites, and the Seer Rites give us the tools we need for the journey. This foundation prepares our luminous energy field to hold the vibration and growth available in the next five Rites.

The Daykeeper Rite, is the Rite of the divine feminine. It helps awaken within us an appreciation for our feminine gifts. Both male and female people have the capacity to access and use the gifts of the feminine, and it is said that we must reconnect with our feminine side before we can know and embody the true nature of the masculine.

The Daykeeper is a lineage Rite, connecting us with people who have fully awakened their nurturing ways. As Daykeepers we become the midwives of birth and death, working in community, celebrating the milestones of life: marriages, children, adulthood, and croning.

We follow the cycles of life, and honour the rising and setting of the sun. The Daykeepers of old were also altar keepers, knowing the songs and ceremonies of the world’s altars; from the grandeur of Machu Picchu and Chichen Itza to the simple stone and wooden alters and path markers.

The Wisdomkeeper Rite is the 3rd lineage Rite, and offers the gifts of the divine masculine. In our western world we are highly rewarded for being able to be solitary, focused, linear, critical thinkers. Up until now this has come through without the guidance of the connectedness and nurturing of the divine feminine, and created a space ripe for greed, abuse of the environment, and the history of war. As our planet heals its feminine and connective side, there will be less and less space for abuse.

The Wisdomkeeper is the part of us that seeks his own council, takes his/her place by the eternal fire, is self referencing and self regulating. This part of us can bring great focus to our work, and the world's problems. The Wisdomkeepers have left personal stories in the dust behind them, taking on powerful myths and maps to enlighten and lift others up.

The Earthkeeper Rite connects us with a lineage of human beings who have lived beyond duality. Having fulfilled their divine feminine and masculine, the ego becomes fulfilled, and the soul begins to lead. As Earthkeepers we have an expanded view; as if floating in the stars, we see the Pachamama or Mother Earth in her entirety, with all her creation, and sense our stewardship of her. As any good steward, we begin to vision the most beautiful future possible of the Earth. As Earthkeepers, our energy helps shape and paint the future. We are part of all creation. We can experience ourselves in and through life all over the planet.

The Starkeeper Rite is the 5th lineage Rite, which expands our being even further, to the places throughout all time, to the stars and beyond. As Starkeepers we begin to work with energy, time, and space as one. We learn how to dance in the stars, journey forward into the future and bring back what is needed to fulfil the now. As Starkeepers we are the midwives and creators of portals. We take stewardship of the universe and all time.

In the Starkeeper Rite, we reach our hands to the heavens and ask for new stars. These stars are brought down, one into each Chakra. This process prepares the luminous body to begin to shine with the light of the sun.

The Creator Rite is the final Rite in the process of human enlightenment. It takes all the preparation and growing of seeds in the previous Rites to prepare the luminous body, as well as the mental and physical bodies, to hold the energy of this Rite. As the Rites help us work through our issues with feminine, masculine, ego, story, time, space, and energy, we become free. Truly free. We know ourselves as creation itself. With the ego at rest, the soul becomes able to come down more fully into our physical body. This is the stage of Christ consciousness, Buddha consciousness. Those who shine with the light of the sun, Gods walking on earth.

These are the Great Rites of Enlightenment, or Munay-Ki as brought through the Q’ero shaman of Peru. The seeds of these Rites can grow within anyone, all at once, creating a beautiful garden of gifts for ourselves and the world we live in. It is our honour to share these Rites with you, and teach you how to share them with others.

Please feel free to email me should you wish to be gifted with the 9 Rites.

    Once upon a time

Once upon a time, there was a guardian angel, who had spent many long years looking after a very special woman. This woman had worked hard to make the most of her time on planet earth. She had tried to be kind, wise and generous. She had kept an open mind wherever possible and had done her best to help make the world a better place. Not just for her friends and family, but for all her fellow beings. Still, though, she had had her share of hard times and struggles. She had known sadness, loneliness, fear and need. Just as she also known adventure, excitement, satisfaction and success.

Her guardian angel had been with her through it all. Watching her, helping her, whispering to her and even, in some instances, extending the kind of assistance that blurred the angel’s professional boundaries. Once or twice the angel had taken to jumping up and down excitedly in front of the women, urging her to seize the opportunities that she was apparently oblivious to. Of course, the woman had never noticed. And the angel, naturally, had not minded, being blessed, like all angels, with infinite patience and understanding.

At the end of a long and fruitful life, the woman left her body and finally she became able to speak to her angel face to face. Together, they floated on the special white fluffy cloud that the universe supplies at such a time of transition. They sad down to share the in-depth review of her life that the woman was about to watch. After studying the various recordings from numerous angles, the woman learned much about what had really been going on, unbeknownst to her, at all the key moments of her existence. Finally, the woman and the angel reached a point where it became appropriate to review their own interaction.

They found themselves looking down on a diagrammatic representation of the woman’s life. Her timeline was spread out before them as series of footsteps on a long, sandy beach. To the angel’s surprise, for great stretches at a time there was only one set of prints, ‘I was with you all this time,’ said the angel. ‘I recall quite distinctly that these were some of your most joyous, meaningful moments. Where then are my footprints in this picture? Why are they not right by the side of yours?’

The woman looked at the angel, slightly surprised, ‘I know that I’ve only just entered the eternal realm,’ she said, ‘but I reckon I can answer that one for you. You weren’t walking by my side; you were sitting on my shoulder. I felt you with me everywhere I went and, instinctively, I clung to you so tightly that I never put you down. What confuses me are those points over there, where we can definitely see my footprints and yours together. These were some of my toughest moments. I went through a lot of stress and hardship and I would have thought that there should have been only one set of footprints then. Yours! Surely, that was the point when you were carrying me, wasn’t it?’

‘Ah,’ said the angel, ‘ that was where I was trying to carry you, but you wouldn’t let me. I was running along, trying to keep up with you, shouting, “Please let me help.” But you kept marching along alone, insisting that you had everything under control and that you knew how to cope.’

‘No, I didn’t, she said. ‘I distinctly remember, I was constantly requesting your assistance.’

‘Yes,’ said the angel, ‘but you kept asking me for things that I simply couldn’t get for you and ignoring me when I offered you options that would have made a world of difference, though not quite in a way that you might have thought you wanted them to.’

They sat for a while longer in silence, surveying the scent. Finally, they turned to each other ands aid, simultaneously, ‘Still, we didn’t do badly, did we?’

     And they both smiled.

    Money Angel

    Money  Angel
    This is a money angel

Pass  it to 6 of your good friends

I  am not joking. You will find an unexpected  windfall.
If  you delete it, you will never know!

    If I Knew

    IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

    For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
    to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love ! you,"
    And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
    young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
    why not do it today?
    For if tomorrow never comes,
    you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
    and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
    And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

The Purpose Of This Guide To Candle Burning - Start

The Purpose of this guide to candle burning.

The purpose of this practical guide to the ancient magical art of candle burning (C/B) is simple to de-mystify it’s practice, and give every ordinary man and women the chance to at last obtain what he or she wants from it’s use! In recent years, a plethora of new C/B books have come on the market supposedly, say their authors, to make the ancient five cult accessible to the modern layman. Instead of making “fire magic” more accessible they seem instead only to confuse and bewilder the readers they are presumable trying to help!

We do not intend to confuse you with an awkward array of mystical verbiage. We are here to demonstrate absolute simplicity of effective C/B magic. For the first time you will be actually able to cast spells immediately and powerfully with just the help of this guide and ordinary, common candles! Naturally, our words here are mainly directed to the novice in such matters. This guide is not for experienced occultists.

Strangely shaped candles, herbs and incenses are not required here. What this guide promises you is heartening results from simple actions!

2 - Candle Burning is For Everyone

From time immemorial priests, saints, occultists and sooth-sayers, have burnt candles to make wishes come true.  Burning candles for this purpose is a cornerstone of practice in both religious establishments such as the Catholic, Greek and Russian churches, and the “dis-established” religions of witchcraft and paganism. Ironically, Roman Catholics and Pagan/Witchcraft religious practices in general originate from the same sources. This, in fact, is one of the major points of criticism by opponents of both Catholicism and Witchcraft. Whilst most Roman Catholics throw their hands up in horror at even the remotest suggestion that their Church is founded on paganism”, “anti-Catholics” (i.e. Protestant extremists) can point, quite rightly, to a long list of similar beliefs and practices of Roman Catholicism to those of Paganism/Witchcraft. All of which is extremely odd and paradoxical indeed when one considers the Catholic Church’s notorious history of persecution and butchery of witches!

However, we are not here to become involved in a theological debate, and we imply no criticism of Catholicism for perpetuation religious ideas that are basically Pagan in concept. We wish merely to convey the thought that C/B itself is a universal spiritual practice. Because this guide is written and published by sources sympathetic to occult philosophies should not make the reader alienated from its instruction and purpose. Those of traditional religious persuasion are not being asked to compromise their beliefs. Enrich their beliefs perhaps yes, but not to compromise them.

Critics of Christian churches that endorse C/B say that pagan peoples of the ancient world also did the same thing; paganism and sorcery go hand in hand, these critics say, and are therefore “of the Devil”. Anything that steps outside of these crities rigid interpretation is under “the sway of Satan”, Hence the rather strange and quite widespread belief that innocuouns practices such as fortune telling, reading the stars, are considered “evil”. Of course the Catholic church doesn’t endorse fortune telling or astrology, but its many ritualistic practices and beliefs in a hierarchy of saints and angels, resembles closely the paganistic religious structure of the pre Christian era.

Paganism and Witchcraft, on the other hand, are undesirable closely linked and are often one and the same thing. The deities and rituals of modern day witchcraft are very close in kind to the religious cults that precede Christianity.

The fact is that the desire to burn candles to fulfil wishes is a universal need that crosses all religious barriers, not counting extremist sects, of course. Candle burning is magic in it’s simplest form. Light a candle and make a wish and you will see for yourself.

In this guide you will discover the private and personal joy of expressing wishes in this way. Whatever your problem, you will find immediate consolation when you light a candle.

3 -The Modus Operandi of Candle Burning.

Whilst C/B exerts an undeniable psychological effect, its magical effect is often much greater. By the term “magical” we mean the occurrence of phenomena and events that have no “rational” or Logical explanation. Candles when burnt on a regular basis and with a definite objective in mind, become not only instruments of psychological and emotional comfort, but also powerful aids to magical manifestation.

We are speaking here of magical manifestations on a practical mundane level, not the magical phenomena of spirit appearances, etc. Rather we are referring to the solution of insoluble problems, the attainment of ambitious goals, the fulfilment of wishes – all of which is “magical” if materialisation of these things cannot be achieved in the normal course of personal endeavour and application.

To achieve such magical answers to personal wishes and problems it is for one to adhere to certain essential requirements. A haphazard programme of “burning the occasional candle” with no real objective in mind will not achieve much. Candle burning should be a serious and calculated business.

The modus operandi of successful C/B is based on three fundamental precepts:

    1.       THE CANDLE BURNER SHOULD KNOW EXACTLY AND PRECISELY WHAT HE/SHE WANTS.

    2.       THE CANDLE, BEING IMPRESSED BY THE CANDEL BURNERS DESIRE, BECOMES A RECEPTACLE OF THAT DESIRE.

    3.       THE GRADUAL CONVERSION OF THE CANDLE INTO THE ELEMENT OF FIRE IS AN ALCHEMICAL TRANSFERENCE FROM MATTER TO SPIRIT.

The candle burner’s desire, in effect, is transmitted from his or her’s own consciousness into spirit/universal consciousness via the medium of the candle. The candle is therefore your link with the Universal Mind, which is the source of all knowledge and all “miracles”. Fire represent spirit, and universal consciousness is spirit as opposed to matter, which is created by the flame of the candle.

We shall now proceed to see how to use this “alchemical process” to best effect.

    4. Planets, Colours and Vibrations

The most straightforward way of employing candle burning magic to achieve your aims is simply to burn an ordinary white candle every day until your desire(s) is realised. This is the art at its simplest. There is nothing wrong with this although the authors of most C/B manuals would have you believe that such simplicity would never work in place of the complicated rituals that they prescribe. However, understanding and utilising the role of the planetary bodies and their associated colours can obtain better results from C/B.

In the occult view of the universe every heavenly body is possessed by the spirit of a great god. In our solar system each of the planets, including the sun and moon, are both the expression and domain of very important deities. It is from this belief in “planetary gods” that the occult science of Astrology is derived.

Each of these “planetary gods” exerts very distinctive influences on all that happens on this planet and its habitats. Their influence is all pervasive, and is strongly evident in all matters sacred and secular.

The modern occultist, like the Jew and the Christian, believes in an ultimate divine source know as “God”, the “Infinite”, the “Eternal”, “Life Force” etc., but he/she believes also in a vast hierarchy of gods, goddesses, angels, demons, that lay between this “ultimate God” and our own tiny consciousness. These “minor deities” act as a kind of “intermediary” between the occultist and the ultimate “God in much the same way as the Virgin Mary, St Joseph, St John and all the other Roman Catholic saints act as “intermediate” between the Catholic supplement and Jesus/or “God the Father”.

There are some would say that they would rather “go direct” to “God” rather than “waste time” with mere intermediaries. In practical candle burning you can get the best of both worlds by invoking the help of “intermediaries” and direct communication with the “ultimate” God. The intermediaries with whom we are concerned with here are the Lords of their planets Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn and the sun and moon. They will help your efforts greatly by invoking their individual vibrations. This is very simple. You can “tune in” to the vibrations of any of the planetary Lords by utilising a colour associated with them. All colours are rich in symbolism and facilitate an instant contact with whatever vibration you are seeking to influence. This you can do by using candles with the appropriate colour of the planetary Lord whose help you desire. The colours of the seven planetary: Lords are as follows.

      SUN:  Gold, orange, yellow

      MOON: White, silver

      MARS:  Red

      MERCURY:  Yellow

      JUPITER:    Blue

      VENUS:  Green

      SATURN:  Deep blue, black, red.

The planetary Lords Pluto, Neptune and Uranus are not included as their influences are more subtle and outside of the practical requirements of this guide.

In addition to burning the appropriate colour you can gain further favourable vibrations by commencing your rituals on the day ruled by the appropriate deity. The days of the seven planetary Lords are as follows:

      SUN:             Sunday

      MOON:          Monday

      MARS:          Tuesday

      MERCURY:    Wednesday

      JUPITER:       Thursday

      VENUS:          Friday

      SATURN:       Saturday

Each of the planetary Lords exercises a powerful influence in their respective areas of ruler ship.   By studying the following table you can choose the appropriate Lord that rules your area of concern.

      SUN:    Health, Confidence, Persuasion

      MOON:            Women, Emotions, Home

      MARS:  Energy, Sex, Courage

      MERCURY:            Intelligence, Mental Ability, Attraction

      JUPITER:            Protection, Law, Business

VENUS:            Love, Peace, Harmony, Beauty, Money

      SATURN:            Destruction, Confusion, Self-Discipline

Logically for a love problem one chooses Venus to help, for improved concentration or memory one looks to Mercury, and for help in a legal matter Jupiter.  However, the reader should not fret about having to remember all these points of planetary Lords, colours, days etc., for in the over 100 detailed C/B rituals that follow later everything you need to know for each ritual is carefully explained. We explain the points outlined now for the reader who wishes to create his /her own spells and rituals to suit this/her own needs.  It is not incumbent upon the reader to use only the rituals given on my website, anyone can create their own formulae from getting what they want providing they stay within the basic guidelines for C/B success.

However, the instructions that follow in the next Chapter should be followed by all readers irrespective of whether they intend to use the rituals on my website.

5 – How to Employ C/B For Success and Fulfilment

It is essential that the simple but very important instructions that follow are adhered to carefully in order to get the best and most effective results from your C/B rituals.

One should always conduct one’s rituals in the same place every time. Preferably it should be a place private to you such as a bedroom rather than a place like a kitchen or a living room where the mixed vibrations of other people are ever present, even when they are physically not there. If you have no choice but to use such a place frequently used by others then so be it.  It may impede the results of your C/B, but success should still come.

You will need, or course, candle holders, should you not already have some. You should be ever mindful of the fire-risk inherent in burning candles; an insecurely held candle that slips on to a flammable material can have your home going up in smoke in no time. Do be careful. It is necessary. Too, that you always use new candles and NEVER candles that have been used by someone else or that you yourself have burnt for another purpose. The candles must always be new and used exclusively for the same purpose and none other. The same candle used for different purposes is a bad candle because vibrationally its power is negative or even destructive.

The working are for your ritual is called an “altar” and it can be a table, a chest, a desk; even the floor, if nowhere is available or practical. But wherever or whatever it is it should always be the same place. Do not change your mind every other second day; again you will be confusing vibrations, which will undermine the efficacy of your rituals.

Usually you will need only one candle for each performance of a ritual. This is contrary to the instructions of almost every other C/B book where all kinds of different candles are required for each individual ritual performed. We are sparing you such complications because they are not necessary for success with your workings. This elaboration’s have their place in occult work, but are outside the requirements of the reader of this guide. The rituals you get in this guide are every bit as effective as those anywhere else, perhaps even more so as the element of simplicity is in strong play in them, which is a very powerful and useful advantage.

Before you burn any candle you will need to “bless” and “anoint” it, the purpose of which is to free it of any negative vibrations, which it may have contained before you, purchased same, and to imbue it with your own positive will. The first thing you do is clean the candle with a wet sponge and then leave it to dry. You next bless it with the following words.

    Cleansed and Blessed

    Are Thee,

    Now to Perform

    Thy Service for Me.

Now use the tip of a knife, or a needle and inscribe onto the candle surface the name of the person or problem you seek to overcome. In the case of a person inscribe his or her’s first name, or if you do not know the name simply inscribe the word “him” or  “her”. By personalising the candle in this manner you are magically making the candle this person.  Magically, this person is now under your control and providing you follow the other instructions correctly it will be quite impossible for him or her not to do what you want. C/B is not child’s play. It is serious business and the results are serious. If it is a problem to which you seek a solution inscribe the name of the problem. For example if loneliness is your problem just write “loneliness”. If you need a change of luck inscribe “luck”, and so on. Before you have even lit the candle and cast your spell you have gained power over the matter you seek to change by making this inscription.

Having blessed your candle and inscribed your wish on its surface you now anoint it with oil. This must be with vegetable oil only. Apply the oil at the candles centre and slowly go to the top of the candle and back to the centre. Next go from the centre – slowly – to the bottom before again returning to the centre. Do not go from top to bottom in one full swoop: it must be done exactly as stated. Your mind should also be firmly fixed on the purpose for which you want to burn the candle whilst you are anointing it: if your mind is on something else the chances of obtaining success from your endeavours are considerably reduced.

Most occultists feel that the burning of incenses with candles is a must. This is based on the belief that the fumes of incense going up into the air act as a “message carrier of one’s petition or desire” to the gods. The aroma of incense is also a good aid to concentration and gives an added “lift” to the vibration and tone of a ritual. However, we do not believe that incense is indispensable to occult work, certainly not to C/B rituals. It is worth bearing in mind that the smoke from incense leads to inevitable rapid staining of the ceiling, a point which may deter the house-proud reader. For those who wish to try incense it is first necessary to purchase a censer (for holding the incense). There are a wide range of incenses available, in cone and stick shape and our advice about choice is simply to buy that which appeals to you. Most incense are of either Indian or Chinese origin. The former is usually preferable to the latter as the Chinese usually tends to be too sweet and over-scented. Specially prepared incenses for ritual work are available from occult supply houses. These are said to be more potent because they are made specifically with witchcraft and tribalism in mind. We think their importance is exaggerated, and purchasing same can be risky because some of the occult supply houses are invariably unreliable, are here today and gone tomorrow, and slow to deliver. Readers who wish to try their luck, however, can locate mail order occult supply sources advertising in such magazines as “Prediction” in England and “Fate” in the USA. These monthly magazines are easily available and can be ordered from your newsagent if not in stock. “Ordinary” incense itself can be purchased at almost any department store.

We would like to stress again that you do not need to have incense in order to make your cancel burning ritual successful: it is merely an “optional extra”, helpful but not essential. We would also like to point out that not even coloured candles are vital to your success; they are certainly more important than incense, but it is not a life and death matter if you do not use them. Coloured candles – especially the “popular” colours such as blue, red, yellow etc, - are available at almost every good department store and supermarket. A white candle will do when no other colour is available for you to use.

The really important thing in C/B is the magical act of transferring your desire from your consciousness to Universal Consciousness via the candle. The candle acts as a “medium” between your wish and its fulfilment, and a connecting link between your lesser consciousness and the greater consciousness. That you understand this and treat the matter sincerely and with faith is what truly counts; all the other matters are details to help you on your way, but do not constitute the difference between success and failure. So long as you believe that the candle will do the job for you will succeed. Having the right coloured candles, and speaking the spells correctly, on the correct days, will not work for you if your belief and understanding is lacking.

Using coloured candles gives you a link with the planetary Lords, as explained earlier, but their importance should not be over-estimated in view of what was said in the foregoing statements. The planetary Lords, whose vibrations are invoked by the appropriate coloured candles, are very influential in acting on your behalf, but their role, as intermediary does not guarantee success. This is why elaborate occult rituals fail so dismally for many people because too much attention is given to superfluous content of the rituals rather than the basic heart of the matter. We can illustrate this point by observing the businessman who succeeds in spite of obstacles and lack of capital because of his desire and determination. Another man with plenty of capital and all the right “connections” fails to succeed because of a lack of desire and know-how. The analogy can be drawn directly with the person burning candles for success.

If for any reason you cannot obtain coloured candles for your purpose then use ordinary white ones which are most easily obtainable, Whatever you do, Do NOT use another colour in place of a suggested colour. For example do not use green when the suggested colour is red, or brown when you should use blue, and so on. You must keep to the colour(s) suggested and not employ other coloured substitutes. Only white should act as a substitute because the very absence of colour in plain white negates any possibility of mixing colour vibrations to your detriment. Using the wrong colour will not harm in most cases, but it will work against you rather than for you, making your chances of success quite weak. When you are burning candles to solve a difficult problem you need all the help you can get – don’t blow your chances of solving it by using the wrong colours. Always keep to white if you can’t get the correct colour or if you are in a hurry to start a ritual and haven’t time to wait until the next time you go to town in order to buy the right one.

6 – Gaining the Help of the Moon

The moon, “Mistress of the Night”, is the most influential of the heavenly bodies, being the orb closest to us. Her influence is enormous in affairs both esoteric and exoteric and she is the single most important consideration in the timing of occult rituals of any kind. For the majority of the rituals given in this guide you should begin during the time of a waxing moon, that period between a New Moon and a Full Moon. She exerts a particularly favourable influence at this time, and is the period most important to all “white magicians” and all others employing the occult for good ends. Some rituals, however, should only be performed at the time of the Waning Moon, that period between Full Moon and the Dark of the Moon. Rituals to be performed at this time are clearly indicated. This is the best time for all spells and rituals of a negative and repelling nature: for driving away unlucky conditions, unpleasant situations, The Waxing Moon, on the other hand, favours spells that seek to attract and improve situations.

One period that should be studiously avoided is the time of the DARK of the MOON, which is usually for a duration of three days before the appearance of the New Moon. This period is favoured by practitioners of the so-called “Black Arts” for the “Mistress of Magic” is at her most negative then.

You can locate the dates for the phases of the moon in most calendars or in any astrology magazine.

7 – Getting Ready to Start

We have given you the “how of simple, successful C/B; the “do” is not up to you. I will supply you with some spells and rituals to follow. I will divide them into categories for easy reference. Every ritual incorporates a psalm from the Bible, which is only optional for you to read, in most cases. The psalms contain great occult power and have always been employed by Jewish magicians to accomplish their goals. We suggest you read psalms from the King James Bible, as the phrasing of its Old English is homologous with general ritual phraseology. Some of the psalms specified may seem irrelevant to the nature of your wish or desire, but let not this mislead you; remember they are rich in occult symbology which incorporates enormous vibrational energy. It is not necessary for you to understand this symbology, but it is incumbent upon you to believe that it will hep you.

Some people think that it is necessary to abstain from food and/or sex before performing an occult ritual. This is generally the case in the execution of what is called “High Magic”, but is it certainly not required for the simple C/B rituals that I will provide, it is not advisable, however, to do a ritual soon after a heavy meal or immediately after sex. The wearing of special apparel such as robes and so on, is also not required. Your normal clothing is perfectly in order providing it is not tight fitting. Tight garments hinder psychic flow.

Finally, we should remind you that candle burning should not be performed for fun or amusement. It should only be performed for real needs and desires. Doing a ritual “just for kicks” or “just to see what happens” will prove totally fruitless. Those who treat C/B irreverently, or any form of spiritual or occult operation, will gain nothing at best. The subject should be approached seriously and with a real spirit of belief. Do not speak the spells/psalms like a zombie: say the words with feeling and drama. Strong emotions gives irresistible power to ritual.

    C/B works.

    Try it and see.

For my special Friends who are unemployed

This is for all my special friends out there, who are unemployed.

    To Get a Job

Begin on Sunday.  Light a gold or yellow coloured candle and make the following spell.

    A Good Job Awaits Me,

    I Know.

    For Thine Brilliant Light

    Scans and Searches

    A Place For Me.

    A Good Job Awaits Me,

    For Thine Goodness is great!

    My Faith In Thee is

    Complete

A Good Job Waits for Me.

    Speak this spell three times.

There is no alternative psalm to read for this ritual.

Perform ritual every day until employment is found.

    The Witches' Creed

    The Witches’ Creed

    “To Know,

    To Dare,

    To Will,

    To keep silent;

These are the four words of the Magus,

In order to Dare, we must know

In order to Will, we must Dare.

We must Will, we must Dare.

We must Will to possess empire.

To reign, we must be Silent.”

To Know: We must free our minds and clear them of useless clutter, garbage, and worn-out notions. Only then can we open them to accept the gifts of knowledge and truth – the gifts of the Ancients – that await us.

To Dare: We must dare to overcome our own personal ignorance and outdated beliefs. Only then will we gain the personal strength necessary to walk the path of the Craft.

To Will: Without personal will, our magic comes to naught. In order for our efforts to reach success, we must want our goals so badly that we become one with them.

To Keep Silent: This is a twofold matter. First, we must acquire the trait of inner peace and quiet, and cultivate it well within ourselves. Only then can we hear the messages of the Gods, or hear the truth within. The second matter is a mundane one. Unfortunately, bigoted, frightened people still live in our world, and we must understand that thosw who do not wish to be educated will not be. For that reason, silence is often necessary to protect ourselves and the ways of the Craft

    Rede of the Wicca

    Rede of the Wicca

The Wiccan Rede has been around for a long time. It not only outlines our rules, but gives a brief summary of how we live the magical life. This is important stuff; so important, in fact, that I’ve always had my students commit it to memory.

Memorizing this will serve you well, too.

Bide the Wiccan Law you must, in perfect love and perfect trust.

Live and let live; fairly take and fairly give.

Cast the Circle thrice about, to keep all evil spirits out.

To bind the spell every time, let the spell be spake in rhyme.

Soft of eye and light of touch, speak little and listen much.

Deosil go by the waxing Moon, sing and dance the Witches’ Rune.

Widdershins go when the Moon doth wane, and werewolf howls by the dread wolfsbane.

When the lady’s Moon is new, kiss the hand to her times two.

When the Moon rides at Her peak, then your heart’s desire speak.

Heed the Northwind’s mighty gale, lock the door and drop the sail.

When the wind comes from the South, love will kiss thee on the mouth.

When the Westwind blows o’er thee, departed spirits restless be.

Nine woods in the cauldron go, burn them fast and burn them slow.

Elder be the Lady’s tree – burn it not, or cursed be!

When the Wheel begins a turn, let the Beltane fires burn.

When the Wheel hath turned to Yule, light the log and let Pan rule.

Heed ye flower, bush, and tree, and by the Lady, Blessed Be!

Where the rippling waters flow, cast a stone and truth you’ll know.

Whenever ye have a need, harken not to others’ greed.

With the fool, no seasons spend, nor be counted as his friend.

Merry Meet and Merry Part, bright the cheeks and warm the heart.

When misfortune is enow, wear the Blue Star on your brow.

True in love ever be, unless thy love is false to thee. Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfil: “An’ it harm none, do what ye will!”

    Coping with Change

    Coping with change

Our lives follow cycles that are continually changing, evolving and shifting from moment to moment, and nothing in the physical realm remains the same forever. In modern society, we have come to fear or abhor most endings, seeing them as associate with failure or as the loss of something we value or want to keep. However, natural magic teaches us that change is good, and when we are able to let go of things that do not really serve us, or of an experience that has run its course, our lives can open up in very positive ways.

      ENDINGS

To attract a new beginning, we must first close the door on that which is ending. This could be a long term relationship, a work contract, a house move or perhaps grown-up children leaving home; whatever the situation it is important to create an ending that honours the change, while remaining positive about it. The simplest way to honour and ending is to voice the fact, and give thanks for what you have experienced as you indicate your intention to let it go and move on to a new beginning.  The ceremony can be a simple or as elaborate as you wish. For instance, you could light a candle on y our altar and say a prayer, or give some other offering as a thanksgiving for what is ending. Water is the element associated with letting go, so you could also include this on your altar.

      A TALISMAN FOR CHANGE

Endings and beginnings may be accompanied by feelings of insecurity, fear, and sadness, and you can use this talisman to help you come to terms with your feelings. Make it during a waxing moon if you are more concerned with beginnings, during a waning moon for endings and letting go.

      You will need.

    2 silver or white candles

    Silver pen

23cm (9in) square of natural paper

    Moonstone.

    1.       Light the candles, saying these words as you do so;

    2.       Hail to you Levanah, I light these candles in your honour and ask for your help with the endings/beginnings (whichever you are working on) in my life at this time.

    3.       Draw the symbol for Alpha (beginnings) or Omega (endings) in the middle of the paper, depending on whether you are working with endings or beginnings. If you want to work with both, then draw both symbols.

    4.       Fold the four corners of the paper into the centre to make a diamond shape, then fold in the same way twice more.

    5.       Pinch out the candles, place the moonstone on your talisman and leave it in moonlight for several hours. Afterwards, put it in a safe place or carry it with you.

    SYMBOLS OF NEW BEGINNINGS.

There are many ways in which you can call for a new beginning, once you have recognised and acknowledged an ending in your life.

    ·         A pair of lodestones placed together in a central area of a room will call for the attraction of a lover.

    ·         If you see shooting stars and comets together in the sky wishing upon them calls the Sky Father’s protection and blessing fro any wishes you make.

    ·         The cowrie shell is sacred to the Goddess and empowers wishes for love, friendship and family. Decorate a small pouch with cowrie’s shells and drop your written wish inside.

    ·         A bowl of seeds (such as sesame, sunflower or pumpkin) with a wish tucked into them, placed on an altar or on the kitchen windowsill, will encourage the growth of whatever you have called for.

    ·         A birch broom propped up beside a doorway will encourage the old to depart and the new to arrive, and will also provide protection for your home.

    ·         When you are seeking new work or prosperity opportunities, turn silver coins in your pocket on the first night of a new moon to invite growth in your finances.

    ·         Write a wish on a piece of paper, fold or roll it and place the paper within the cone of a white lily flower, this bloom is sacred to Ostara, the goddess of birth and new life. ·         Written symbols, such as Beth from the Druidic tree alphabet, or the Greek letter Alpha, will encourage new beginnings. Write them in places of significance such as over a written wish, or trace them in the air in a space where new beginnings are being called for. You could also include them on a talisman.

    SCRYING

    SCRYING:

From the earliest times, people have seen supernatural images in shiny surfaces such as a pool of dark water, a black stone, a concave mirror or a crystal ball set against black velvet. In Tibet, seers sometimes gaze at a wetted thumbnail. The process is called “scrying”, which means, “perceiving”, and it is an art that many magicians aim to master as a way of answering questions about the future. To be able to scry you need to be able to switch off from the distractions of everyday life and enter an altered state of consciousness. It uses the same kind of inner vision as dreams, so you may find that by improving dream recall, scrying gets easier, or conversely if you learn how to scry you will remember your dreams.

     FINDING YOUR RELAXED STATE

To improve your success as scrying, it is necessary to be able to enter a deeply relaxed state, so performing this preparatory exercise might help.

Find a time and place where you won’t be disturbed for at least half an hour. You will need an upright chair and a notebook and pen for keeping a record – you may wish to use your Book of Shadows or else create another magical diary, which you keep for recording your work with dreams and/or visions.

    1.       Sit with your feet flat on the floor or on a thick book so that your knees are at a right angle, and find a comfortable relaxed position. Close your eyes.

    2.       Breathe out fully and then, counting at your own speed, breathe in for a count of four. Hold your breath for a count of four, breath out for a count of four, then hold your breath out for another count of four.

    3.       Repeat this entire breathing cycle at least 10 times. If you lose count, it will be necessary to start again from the beginning. You may find this pattern difficult, in which case you can try a slower 10 – 5 – 10 – 5. You can count quickly or slowly or, if you can feel your pulse while sitting in a relaxed position, count that.

    4.       Focus all your mental attention on breathing slowly and rhythmically, and relaxing physically. Gradually, you will find that this helps you to become calm and focused.

    5.       Bring your attention to the scrying glass, and gently open your eyes. You are in your relaxed state and ready to begin crying.

      LEARNING TO SCRY

Scrying is not a skill that you can learn automatically. Like riding a bicycle or swimming, there is a knack to it and it takes time. Practice and concentration. A common mistake in beginners is that they try too hard, which only creates tension. Rather relax, and you will see words, images, still pictures or actions flitting through your mind’s eve, rather like watching a film. The trick is not trying to hold on to what you see, but to let it go.

After a while, you will find that the film slows down and the images or non-visual concepts remain visible long enough for you to study them. Like remembering dreams, you may need to tell yourself what is happening in order to fix it in your longer-term memory, but it does get easier with practice. You may find that it helps to cast a circle around yourself and the table with the scrying vessel (know as the “speculum”) on it, or that to light a candle and some sweet incense will bring on a more psychically open state of mind. Really it is a matter for patient experimentation to see what works best.

     TRUST WHAT YOU SEE

In order for scrying to work, there must be no distracting reflections on the surface of the object, so the ambient light where you are working should be soft and diffuse. If a vision is to emerge, the mind and body need to still and clamed by a period of quiet contemplation, with the eyes closed so that residual images fade from the retina.

Once you feel you have reached the right state of mind you are ready to begin into the speculum induces a trance-like state and allows ideas to emerge from the unconscious mind, as they do in dreams.

The first impression may be of a mist, which eventually darkens and resolves into colours, shapes, symbols or complete images. Like the images seen in dreams, these are likely to relate to deep-seated issues and offer information that the conscious mind does not have access to. They may seem inexplicable at first, but become relevant later.

    MAKING YOUR OWN SCRYING VESSEL.

Real crystal balls are difficult and expensive to obtain so before you decide whether to get one you can make your own scrying vessel. Use black enamel spray paint to coat the outside of a balloon-shaped wine glass. You may need several coats. Alternatively try scrying in a clear glass bowl of water. You can also make a simple mirror by painting the glass of a picture frame or as follows, using a sheet of black paper.

    1.       You will need a picture frame, a piece of black paper and a pair of scissors. Take the frame apart and cut out a piece of black paper to fit. Place the paper in the frame behind the glass and put the frame back together again.

    2.       Once the frame is properly secured, polish the glass thoroughly with a soft cloth. Your scrying glass is now ready to use.

      STEPS TO SCRYING.

You can learn to develop your ability to “see” by following these steps.

    1.       Allow yourself to sink into a relaxed state.

    2.       Open your eyes to regard the glass, crystal, sphere or other “speculum”.

    3.       Look within the glass ignoring any reflections or points of light on its surface.

    4.       Sink within if, forming the question in your mind.

    5.       In a while, you will find that the glass seems to cloud over, or become dim. Through the mist, a dark patch may appear.

    6.       You might find yourself sinking into this dark patch, then picture, signs, numbers, words or other symbols may appear before you. 7.       This will probably not happen in the first experiments you perform but will come with practice.Continue for a number of regular sessions and you will gradually master this ancient and very valuable skill.

    Solitary Samhain Ritual

    Solitary Samhain Ritual

    Tools needed:
    A knife (must be sharp)
Apples or Grapes (pref. room temperature or warm)
    Pomegranate (pref. chilled)
God and Goddess Candles on the altar
    Small serving dishes

    Call elements
    Cast your circle

    Invoke deities by saying:
"Gaia, who nurtures all life, send your son Pan, Lord of the fields and flocks. May he join me in celebration and revelry."

Light the God Candle and say:
"Pan, master of beasts and rough, primal forces--enter this circle; share your wild abandon! Bring to us joys and lusts; bring the last kiss of summer before the cold of winter. Join me, Pan! IO EVOE!

    Face Altar Saying:
"Ouranous, who rules the heavens, send your daughter Hekate, She who guards against the terrors of the night. May she join me in celebration and reflection."

    Light Goddess candle and say:
"Hekate, queen of night and the restless spirits--enter this circle, share your peace and wisdom. Bring calm and endurance; bring guidance through the winter until the days grow warm. Join me, Hekate! IO EVOE!"

    Cycling of the year:

Take the blade, and grapes [or apple]. Cut into fruit (apples or grapes); place on a plate, and offer it upwards & then hold it in front of you.
"I eat this last fruit of summer. May I be filled with the warmth that has ripened this fruit on the vine [or tree]. May I taste the sweetness of life in the sun.”

Eat, and pause to think about the end of summer.

Place knife on altar. Say: "Summer ends. Winter begins. The fields lay fallow, and the beast sleep in their homes. The Lord passes the mantle of guidance to the Lady as the nights grow cold and long."

Take blade & pomegranate. Cut into it, place on plate; offer it upwards, then hold it in front of you. "I eat this first fruit of winter. May I feel the chill that ripened this fruit in the rind? May I taste the richness of life hidden away.”?

Eat, and pause to think of what winter will bring.

    Worship & prayers:

Say: "Hekate Apotropaios, averter of evil--control the wrath of the dead, whose spirits cry out for vengeance, and who may lash out at anyone they can reach. Protect the living from their rage. Hekate Chthonia, lady of the underworld--you have dominion over the hostile spirits who wander; guide them to their resting places, and seal the gates between the worlds. Hekate Phosphoros, light-bringer--bring us light and guidance as we stand in this doorway, this transition between peace and war. Let your torches show us the truths hidden in the shadows; lead us out of this darkness."

    Remembrance & contemplation:

"I now remember and honour those who have died this past year."

Face altar, and mention someone who has passed in the last year that you will miss. This does not need to be someone you know personally. If you have incense, light a stick and wave it in a circle, or put another pinch on the charcoal for each person you mention. (Or light a candle.) If you have a token of the person (an item of theirs, or a photo), place it on the altar.

Continue until you've had the chance to remember as many people as you care to. Pause.

Simple Feast--cakes & wine, or whatever you want

Thank and release the Gods and Goddesses

"Pan, lord of the fields in summer, thank you for your presence, for sharing your joy in life. Before you depart to your winter realms, I drink deep in your honour" [raise cup, drink, spill some in libation bowl, set it down & raise hands over head]... "Hail Pan! Hail & farewell!"

"Hekate, lady of night & magic, thank you for your presence, for extending your protection. Before you depart to take up your winter duties, I drink deep in your honour" [raise cup, drink, spill some in libation bowl, set it down & raise hands over head] "Hail Hekate! Hail & farewell!"

    Tools Needed:
    2 pink candles
    Rosemary herb
    Jasmine or Gardenia Oil
    A mirror
A pink cloth large enough to cover the mirror

The divine is all around us. To tap into the spirit of the divine in your daily life, gather together two pink candles, some jasmine or gardenia oil, some rosemary herb, a mirror and a pink cloth large enough to cover the mirror. Sit before the mirror, eyes closed, and breathe in the energy of the earth and sky. Fill yourself with light. Open your eyes and see yourself filled with light. Anoint the outline of your face with the oil and speak the following verse three times:

"I am the Goddess (or God) Incarnate.
    I am filled with light
    And connected to all things.

I am beautiful. I am loved."

Cover the mirror with the pink cloth. Repeat the verse any time you are feeling lonely, down on yourself or unloved.

    God/Goddess Incarnate Spell

At this time of the year, the balance between dark and light it's great to try and find your own balance using an Autumnal Blessing. It can easily be adapted for a group or solitary:

Use a White and Black candle, placed side by side, for this ritual. Breathe in the glow that comes from the equal balance of day and night. Decorate your sacred space with fruits and grain and harvest leaves as you slowly speak this verse:

    "Protection covers me and mine,
Abundant gifts grow from Nature Divine.

    Mabone comes with balance dear,
The second such time of the year.

    Second Harvest abundance flows,
Through our labor the storehouse grows.

We fill our stores though Harvest Moon,
For winter's cold is coming soon.

Harvest brings both hope and fear,
    Harder times are drawing near.

Bless this house with abundance clear,
And bless all who are dwelling here.

Strength of the cycles for all to see,
Bringing colour to land and tree.

    Red, Yellow, Brown and Amber,
Dress the forests, preparing for slumber.

My spirit embrace the dwindling light,
I am ready now for the longer night.

Protection and safety there will be,
As the wheel of the years turns, blessed be.

The balance now is perfect and right.
    Preparations made for Demeter's night.

Searching she goes and searching she will be,
Till Kore's return to you and me.

    Mabon's magic dances in me,
    Autumn blessings to all,
    So Mote It Be!"
